Beer runners’ flour trail a recipe for trouble
Pair arrested after marking a powdery path through IKEA parking lot.NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Two people who sprinkled flour in a parking lot to mark a trail for their offbeat running club inadvertently caused a bioterrorism scare and now face a felony charge.
The sprinkled powder forced hundreds to evacuate an IKEA furniture store Thursday.
New Haven ophthalmologist Daniel Salchow, 36, and his sister, Dorothee, 31, who is visiting from Hamburg, Germany, were both charged with first-degree breach of peace, a felony.
are you kidding me???

a little behind… again…

been working at work and at home, late and practically all the time. haven’t had the time to actually sit down and write. my bad, as my kids would say.
when you install a switch plate or light switch cover, do you make the screws go across or up and down?
we bought a gazebo with these horrendous legs on it. when the wind would pick up, it would blow the thing all around. so, during the last 2 days, we replaced all the crappy supports with 4×4 sticks and re-supported the cross pieces. we added all the original trim and tent hardware, and we are back in business. it’s should be sturdy enough now for those windy days we have here, now and now!
the better half starts working at school again tomorrow. i know that she is looking forward to it. the kids start on wednesday. not sure if they are.
the bears seem to have some parts of their play down, and certainly dh is rocking the turf again. hope his shoulder thing isn’t a problem in the up[coming games.
the cubbies? uneven play, but same for the brewers. got to watch out for those cards, however. might be trying to sneak in.
turns out there is another member of a particular at work fan club. we are like bookends, with no middle.
sap integration starts this week. we’ll see how well we have done so far. going to be a long week, i think.
brian. really sorry about the basement. need to know more tomorrow.
that’s it. tired puppy upstairs and typing right now. going to hit the hay, figuratively, as i am not currently sleeping in a barn.
till then… peace…
vicious week…
by ratman on Aug.12, 2007, under family, things, work
we came back from the lake to find my personal desktop dead as a car battery on a -30 degree day. i him-ed and hawed about it all week and finally replaced it on friday. took a couple hours of loading stuff yet again. it’s much smaller and not as featured as the original, but it is something that i will have to live with. no where near enough drive space. ram. video. it just sucks. but on the bright side, it works.
the cubbies fell apart this week. had bright spots but couldn’t really get it all together. pitching is short and hitting has gone away as well. they were probably glad to get out of houston and will be glad to leave colorado as well. not that you can blame them much as they have been playing for like 20 days straight, but…
the bears won last night in what appears to be dramatic fashion. i missed it as i was watching a movie with the family and then trying to see the meteor shower last night. wish we’d have been out at the lake. would have been easier.
my youngest hits 10 in 7 days. time to shop for crap that will last a day or 2.
snickers is doing ok, though he has a habit of bitting and snarling his way around the house. i know that mom as well as lady dog are getting rather tired of it. whoopee.
i am still behind obama, though i believe that he has made some mistakes in the recent weeks. sure he’s not as ‘seasoned’ as the rest, but deep down, i think that might be a good thing. he, like me (unfortunately) says things that comes straight from the mind, without thinking about the consequences. maybe that’s why i like him?
where oh where is my friend kathy jiskra? oh where oh where can she be?
my better half is getting ready to restart school. i think that she has had enough of summer off. time to get back to the grind.
i have added another website that i implemented to the links. give it a look. it belongs to a teacher that mich works with. he has some interesting pieces available for sale. it’s quite interesting art as well.
a hearty thanks goes out to jon, brian and diane for making work a much happier place. we are somewhat like the 4 musketeers. (i know, there were only 3, but it’s my blog)
i must go and get stuff done. i presume based on my day that i will think of more useless stuff to pass along, but for now, i am empty…
till then… peace…
the week that was…
by ratman on Aug.03, 2007, under family, things, work
another week passes and we are closer to actually seeing our sap implementation in all it’s glory. not that i think the consultants actually want us to. but hey, it’s our project, right?
cubs fell out of first place today. not good pitching and hitting was spotty at best. but there are still like 54 games to be played. we are still in the hunt, and i believe that we still have a better chance than most. fingers crossed. we’ll be fine.
we are at the lake this weekend. the family is here. miss having the boys here before, but also enjoyed the quiet time we had together. says it’s cloudy here, but all i see are stars. one of the best reasons for coming here. got to love it. tomorrow, fireworks, unless it rains. it won’t, right?
more pissed people at me because i actually drive 45 in a workzone. where is the ticket truck when you need it?
does anybody really know what time it is? does anybody really care?
well. got to walk the dog, so we can hit the hay.
obama. i am behind you even on the pakistan thing. but please pick your fights wisely. and make sure that when you decide to say these things, you have thought out the other side which will, based on the current state of affairs in the media, come back to haunt you. now is not the time to stutter.
ok then. tata for now. enjoy your weekend.
till then… peace…
this is for my friend brian… the rest of you don't need to understand…

monday…
by ratman on Jul.30, 2007, under family, things, work
great day at work, well until near the end. seems the sap folks are a little confused as to what we were actually looking for. or was it us? hopefully, it gets straightened out tomorrow.
we had a meeting this morning, and during one of the gals said…
that’s like needing an arm and receiving a finger.
later, one of the guys i share space with said…
all i could think of was instead of what she said, it was like needing an elevator, and only getting the shaft.Â
it’s still making me chuckle….Â
have the day off tomorrow. taking the better half downtown to the msi chicago. going to view the csi exhibit. then it’s off to pick up the kids from their july vacation. i can hardly wait!
i believe that the local, county and state police offices should have an anonymous entry on their sites for we the public to enter where people have broken laws. example. some wanker parks his/her car in a handicapped space because they are too rude to abide by the law. you could just text it to them, and with the way technology is, they’d get a ticket before they left the space. makes me crazy.
the cubs lost tonight so they are a game back. but there is still plenty of time, and i have all my faith (and jon and my brothers) to know that they are going to make it this year. go cubs go. go cubs go.
more tomorrow…
 till then… peace…
weekends make you feel better…
by ratman on Jul.27, 2007, under family, things, work
so. here we are at the lake. a quiet night watching movies because the air outside is thick with humidity. so thick, that as you walk, you can feel the air break around you. i hate that.
when i turned the cubs game on, they were loosing 4 to 2. then it was 4 to 4. but they lost, 5 to 4. bummer. really.
the kids are back in 4 days. can’t tell you how much happiness it brings me that they’re coming home.
the world is a tense place right now. what will it take to make us come together once again? it can’t just be a change in presidents, but rather a change in global attitude. i hope it happens soon. the fear i have for my kids is just maddening.
well. it’s time to go to bed. if you need something else to read tonight, head to fark.com. it is there that you will find interesting and fun story jems unearthed in the ever growing internet. what did we do without it all those years.
till then… peace…
email address no more…
by ratman on Jul.26, 2007, under family, things, work
the removal of ratman@ratman.com has made my email life, well, amazing! i can whip right through my email with nary a care. takes far less time, and no more i’m lonely, your bank, a friend has sent you a card emails. got to love that.
kids are just a few days away.
going to the lake this weekend for a rest.
there was chaos at work… again…
but life is good… really…

it’s totally cool to work with people that you like. i like my boss(‘s). i like most everybody. but my real like is the ba’s that i have the pleasure to work with. each one of them are idea people. they think like the box only has one side and that there is a general rule that everything can be made better. i have that same feeling. sometimes what is better takes forever to get across, and that seems to be a problem right now. but i do believe that we will get there, eventually. drive and persistence are what we need, and that seems to be one thing that we share. we are doing an sap implementation, and, like the old days, it is hard to get your point across to people that have no idea what your business is really about. unlike your customers, who want to know what you can do for them, consultant groups really only listen to you so that they can say that they did. then they sell you down the path that they feel gives them the least amount of resistance. getting past that is all the battle. and one of the hardest things that any group can try to undertake. but as a group, we are trying and we will get there. we know it, and we will tell them.
the kids spent time in a sky box at the d-backs game the other night. here are my 2 proud boys…

Home soon. I’ll be glad.
dear eola drivers. when the lane changes down to one lane to get through an intersection, please don’t wait till the last minute to get over. everyone of us hates that. and what makes you that special? nothing.
snickers the pup is doing very well. hardly an accident anymore. got to give all the credit to the better half, after all, it’s her puppy!
that’s it.
till then… peace…
